Exciting outcomes from the recent BlueMissionMed HUB event in Lampedusa! Organized alongside the Sicily Region and in collaboration with University of Palermo and Lampedusa Municipality, the event brought together key policymakers, including the European Commission’s Dr. Elisabetta Balzi and Sicilian Region officials including Patrizia Valenti, General Director Environment Department, to explore pathways for transforming Lampedusa’s ecosystems.

🌱 Representatives from Small Islands and Marine Protected Areas across Sicily, including Pantelleria, Egadi, Ustica, and Salina, joined to discuss actionable plans supported by EU structural funds. Together, they explored ways to restore biodiversity, reduce hashtag#pollution, and promote a circular, carbon-neutral blue economy. A powerful step toward sustainable island ecosystems! 🌊

Attendees explored impactful Mediterranean projects advancing ocean and water restoration! MAELSTROM_H2020, Life Dream, REST-COAST, and the Ghost Boat Programme, alongside initiatives from Capraia Smart Island and BIOBLU Robotic BIOremediation.

🤝 With support from foundations like Marilles Foundation and Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco, discussions emphasized public engagement, collaborative innovation, and scalable solutions for marine conservation. Together, Mediterranean stakeholders are creating a strong network for lasting impact across our shared waters. 🌍
