The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is putting together a Masterplan that will address the challenges plaguing the country’s maritime sector, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Akutah Pius Ukeyima has disclosed.
The Minister, Oyetola Adegboyega he said has engaged consultants to develop the action plan that will encompass the remodelling and modernisation of the ports, development of the inland water transportation networks, marine tourism, the blue economy as well as regulations that will help to push toward port efficiency.
Akutah spoke when he visited the ENL head office in Apapa Lagos where he seek collaboration with port terminal operators in his desire to ensure the sector achieves the objective of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in creating the Marine and Blue Economy as a ministry that will drive the project for his agenda to diversify the Nigeria economy.
He said “I believe that this sector is the next biggest thing we have to the Nigeria economy. We need stakeholders’ collaboration and our coming here today is strategic to us. Our role as the port economic regulator is very critical at this moment to drive the economy of the sector.”
