After a working meeting held on the sidelines of the 9th International Fisheries and Aquaculture Expo (SIPA) in Oran, the Minister of Fisheries and Halieutic Productions, Ahmed Badani, and the Minister of the Popular Authority for Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture of Venezuela, Juan Carlos Loyo Hernandez, agreed to send scientific missions to develop freshwater shrimp farming in Algeria and red tilapia in Venezuela. Mr. Badani expressed his desire to develop freshwater shrimp farming, in which Venezuela has extensive experience. In this regard, he recalled that Algeria has a freshwater shrimp farming aquaculture farm in the province of Ouargla, which can be a starting point for the development of this activity. For his part, the Venezuelan minister expressed interest in Algeria’s experience in red tilapia breeding, in terms of genetics and feed production. The two ministers also discussed possibilities for exchange in the field of port management, scientific research, import and export of aquaculture products. It is also noted that contacts have been established with some African and Arab countries for the export of Algerian-made ships, according to the sector’s top official. Ongoing Consultations Great interest is being given to this issue, with follow-up by Algerian diplomatic missions to support economic operators in this field in their future export operations, Minister Ahmed Badani stated. Another business opportunity has emerged for the fishing sector during this professional event. According to the Secretary-General of the Italian Association of Halieutic Resources, Giuseppe Palma, consultations are ongoing with Algerian public authorities on the modalities of exporting Algerian fishery products to Italian and European markets. As reported by APS, Mr. Palma specified that the Italian Association of Halieutic Resources is interested in importing Algerian fishery products, both from fishing and aquaculture, for the benefit of the Italian and European markets. The operation will begin once an agreement in this regard is reached. It will involve sea products in the initial phase, before being expanded to aquaculture fish. Consultations between the two parties are currently being conducted on the organizational laws related to the control of these products. The association is interested in various types of fish and crustaceans.
