On Thursday, February 22, in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II, the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) represented by Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius, Director, and the Oceanographic Institute, represented by Robert Calcagno, Director General, and Cyril Gomez, Deputy Director General, signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a long-term strategic collaboration in scientific cooperation and outreach audiences, in polar, marine and coastal areas.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the Polar Symposium organised by the Prince Albert II Foundation, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), in partnership with the Oceanographic Institute, at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
Together, and over the next five years, the two institutions are committed to promoting the study of the protection of marine and polar ecosystems, as well as the dissemination of this scientific knowledge to the general public. The objectives include in particular the establishment of collaborative research projects, the organisation of academic and scientific events, the exchange of data and information useful for research, communication or even environmental mediation.
