“Tomorrow from today” is a cultural and participatory event supported by the French Institute of Morocco (IFM) with civil society actors, aiming to promote and support eco-citizenship and the ecological transition. For its 6th edition, it celebrates “The oceans”.
The oceans, guardians of the planetary balance to be protected
The oceans play a fundamental role in many aspects of our planet, from ecological balance to the global economy. They play a vital role in sustainable development, to which they are closely linked through their contribution to biodiversity, food, the maritime economy, climate regulation, and tourism and leisure, underline the organizers.
This role is essential to life on Earth, providing vital ecosystem services, food and economic resources, and climate benefits. It is crucial in regulating the planet’s climate and its stability.
Significant variations or sudden changes in climate can cause serious impacts. Extreme weather events such as droughts, severe storms or floods can cause considerable damage to crops, infrastructure and ecosystems, and can even threaten human life.
According to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), humans produce 400 million tonnes of plastic waste each year. Unfortunately, the durability of plastic waste in rivers, seas and on land means that it remains in our environment for centuries.
It is essential to protect and sustainably manage these precious ecosystems to ensure their long-term health and functioning to ensure a viable future for future generations.
DDA, A 6th edition on the theme “The oceans”
The goal of Demain today being to think, build and celebrate together the world of tomorrow, this event aims to inscribe the idea of ecological transition in everyone’s mind by sharing a thoughtful, positive and concrete vision, and support initiative leaders by highlighting the actions implemented in Morocco by citizens, schools and civil society actors.
Throughout the month of May, the IFM will question the notions of sustainable development and eco-citizenship through the theme of oceans with debates, meetings, workshops, shows and concerts, a village of initiatives and projections of films.
Also, the Meknes International Animation Festival – FICAM is this year in the colors of Tomorrow from today and is offering a special program with films dealing with environmental subjects or using processes to reduce the carbon impact of their achievement.
