We asked Matthieu Brunet, CEO of Arcadie, his motivations for boarding Hisseo.
What motivated Arcadia in its choice to transport by sail?
For Arcadia, social motivation is at least as strong as ecological motivation.
Indeed, the globalized maritime transport from which we currently benefit is based on aggressive social dumping enabled by flags of convenience and great opacity.
We have no way of choosing, or even knowing, the working conditions on board the ships that transport our containers.
By supporting the development of sailing transport projects, we also support projects like Hisséo which will offer strong social guarantees.
And of course, as an importer of products that come from far away, the question of the carbon footprint is of particular interest to us, and from this point of view, transport by sail seems to us the most promising solution.
What are the benefits for Arcadia?
At Arcadie, we have a holistic vision of transition issues.
We believe that we cannot afford to be good at one or two aspects and ignore all the others.
This is why we are constantly exploring all avenues to improve.
And of course, we highlight this vision to our customers, as a real added value that sets us apart from the competition.
Concretely, what does the partnership with Hisseo consist of?
We import around 50 tonnes of cumin per year, which is currently transported by ro-ro (boats that trucks can board directly) from Turkey.
We have made a 5-year commitment to Hisséo to entrust them with these 50 tonnes, which they will transport in a single annual trip.
Why embark with Hisseo?
For us, beyond transporting our cumin, it is a way of supporting the emerging sailing transport sector, in which we are already involved through Windcoop.
Hisseo is a new actor with a very great project, and we are very proud that Arcadia is at their side in this adventure!
