The Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, indicated on Thursday June 13, 2024, that national fish production only covers around 12% of national needs. He delivered this information to the premises of the Fraternité matin press group, during its discussion forum entitled “Guest of the editorial staff”.

For him, this constitutes a real opportunity for the development of fish farming, that is to say fish farming.

According to him, investments in aquaculture can concern two major niches. That of setting up commercial fish aquaculture production units.

Indeed, national aquaculture production estimated at around 7,100 tonnes in 2023 is well below the production objective which is 150,000 tonnes by 2026.

“A real investment opportunity results with a turnover of 225 billion FCfa,” said Minister Sidi Touré.

The second opportunity concerns the establishment of aquaculture input production units. Indeed, achieving the objective of these 150,000 tonnes of fish is subject to the supply and satisfaction of input needs estimated at around 600 million fry, representing a turnover of nearly 120 billion of FCfa.

According to him, there is also the need for nearly 2 million 250 thousand tonnes of food for a turnover of 240 billion FCfa.
