Madagascar is intensifying its diplomatic relations with Asian countries. Recently, Malagasy Foreign Minister Rasata Rafaravavitafika met with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamiwaka during the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). Japan has announced its support for the extension and improvement of the water supply system in Toamasina and discussed human resource development in the mining sector.
In terms of cooperation with India, President Andry Rajoelina met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai. This meeting led to the signing of agreements across various sectors, including the blue economy through the “Vision Sagar” project. India committed to investing $100 million, primarily to support the logistical needs of the Malagasy military, as part of its blue economy strategy in the Indian Ocean.
China-Madagascar cooperation is part of the Initiative for the Emergence of Madagascar, aimed at addressing long-term African challenges. A notable project involving hybrid rice technology has been concluded, designed to increase yields and incomes for Malagasy farmers.
Lastly, the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Madagascar has notably strengthened in economic and cultural domains, reflecting their deep historical and cultural ties.
