Today marks the launch of Blue Nature Based Solutions Week (#BlueNbSWeek), an event dedicated to promoting innovative solutions for the conservation and sustainable management of oceans and coastal ecosystems.

The guest speakers, such as Eleonore Caroit, Elisabetta Balzi, Vidar Helgesen, Gilles Kleitz, Boileau Fabien, etc., provided valuable insights.

The day began with a discussion on the importance of involving all stakeholders in governance processes, using the inclusive management of watersheds in France as an example. This approach highlights the need for committed leadership in sustainable stewardship. Participants also explored challenges related to monitoring fishing activities in marine protected areas. Technological solutions, such as data transmission equipment on boats, were discussed, raising ethical and practical considerations.

Patricia Ricard, President of the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute, advocated for cross-sector collaboration by bringing together the public sector, private sector, NGOs, and the scientific community to go beyond traditional innovation frameworks. She introduced the bold concept of #highseasstate, envisioning an oceanic state with its own governance, including politicians and economists, to promote ethical marine management.

Let’s stay committed and cooperative to achieve meaningful progress.
