Droughts, floods, rising sea levels… The Mediterranean is on the front lines of climate change but refuses to be overwhelmed. From Algeria to Egypt, including Tunisia, local initiatives are blossoming, offering solutions tailored to the specificities of each territory. This week, from Azerbaijan, COP29 is expected to support these initiatives and mobilize the necessary funding.
The Mediterranean region is at the forefront of the impacts of climate change, with increasingly frequent heatwaves, prolonged droughts, and rising sea levels threatening densely populated coastal areas. The 22 countries bordering the Mediterranean are thus confronted with the urgent need to implement ambitious actions to tackle both the causes and effects of global warming. In this context, COP29 is crucial to strengthen and accelerate the solutions specifically designed to address Mediterranean environmental challenges.
