During his visit to Singapore, Prince Albert II took the opportunity to attend the 8th edition of the Ocean Innovators Platform, organized by his Foundation at the Marina Bay Sands on Wednesday, November 27.

This annual event highlights sustainable solutions and cutting-edge technologies for a more responsible blue economy.

Opening the event, Olivier Wenden, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II Foundation, emphasized the importance of the gathering: « Catalyzing investments in businesses, technologies, and innovative ideas that can tackle the greatest challenges facing the ocean. It is a platform for solutions. It is a platform for action and results, for our ocean. » He also highlighted Monaco’s leadership in the blue economy, particularly through the ReOcean Fund, a 100 million euro investment fund aimed at supporting innovative initiatives.

Sustainable Finance for Concrete Solutions
Various representatives from renowned venture capital and private equity funds, such as Douglas Hansen-Luke, Executive Chairman of Future Planet Capital, Jérémy Genin, CIO of Monaco Asset Management, Rob Kaplan, CEO of Circulate Capital, and Sébastien Guillaud, Co-Founder & General Managing Partner of Shift4Good, gathered to discuss opportunities offered by blue tech in areas like sustainable aquaculture and alternatives to plastic. A second session, moderated by Caroline Guyot (ENGIE-Factory APAC) in discussion with Janice-Renee Yoshioka, Vice-President of Sustainable Finance at Conservation International, focused on strategies to build a regenerative blue economy.

The Sovereign’s Call
« While it is often said that sustainability and profitability are incompatible, the blue economy proves the opposite. (…) Investments in sustainable aquaculture, renewable ocean energy, and marine biodiversity restoration present real potential in terms of ecological impact and financial return. It is a rare moment where doing what is good for the planet is also good for investors, » concluded Prince Albert II, calling for action with both ambition and pragmatism.
