The African forum on the fishing and aquaculture industry, Seafood 4 Africa 2024, kicked off on Wednesday in Dakhla. Organized by FENIP in collaboration with several Moroccan ministries, the event focuses on promoting sustainability and enhancing the value of seafood products. It brings together African industry stakeholders, international institutions, and representatives of regional economic communities.

Speaking via videoconference, Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, highlighted the strategic importance of the fisheries sector in Morocco, particularly in the southern provinces. This sector, supported by 500 industrial units, generates a revenue of over 25 billion dirhams and plays a vital role in job creation. He emphasized the urgent need to strengthen intra-African trade and adopt innovative solutions for sustainability.

El Khattat Yanja, President of the Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, underlined Dakhla’s strategic role as a regional hub for sustainable fishing and aquaculture research. He also referenced the Dakhla Atlantic Port, designed to boost trade between Africa and other continents while supporting the industrial development of the fisheries sector.

The forum provides a platform for discussion and collaboration around the blue economy, featuring conferences, B2B meetings, and exhibitions on the seafood value chain. This event positions Morocco as a key player in Africa’s sustainable development of fisheries resources, thanks to its commitment to an inclusive and resilient blue economy.
