Alexis and Malou Rosenfeld: « Together, We Aim to Showcase the Ocean’s Abundance of Life »

INTERVIEW – Underwater photographer Alexis Rosenfeld and his daughter Malou embark on a joint mission sponsored by UNESCO, « An Ocean as a Legacy. » This odyssey across the seas will be showcased as a social media series to highlight the importance of preserving marine ecosystems.

According to Alexis Rosenfeld, this project is “one of the most ambitious” he has ever undertaken. In an innovative format, the underwater photographer and explorer—who documented the final sea mission of Commander Cousteau for Le Figaro Magazine—teams up with his 20-year-old daughter, Malou. Together, and in partnership with UNESCO, they are launching a series unveiling the hidden world of the ocean floor. Starting in 2025 on social media, « An Ocean as a Legacy » will follow the father-daughter duo as they traverse the oceans, encounter rarely seen marine creatures, and tackle the technical challenges of deep-sea diving.

LE FIGARO: How did this project come to life?

Malou ROSENFELD: It happened somewhat by chance. I had recently left my history degree program in Paris to move south, closer to the sea I missed so much. I was searching for purpose and wanted to do something meaningful with my life. That’s when I began training as a volunteer firefighter.
