The fishing and aquaculture sectors are experiencing growth in African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries. However, this growth remains slow, and its benefits do not always reach the communities that depend on these sectors. Furthermore, certain fishing and aquaculture practices can put pressure on the environments in which they operate.
FISH4ACP aims to address some of the key challenges to establishing sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, including moderate economic performance, market access difficulties, and issues of social and environmental sustainability.
The program focuses on improving productivity and competitiveness in fisheries and aquaculture value chains, ensuring that economic gains go hand in hand with environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
FISH4ACP will work with twelve value chains across twelve ACP countries to maximize economic benefits and social advantages while minimizing negative impacts on aquatic habitats and resources. The program will pay particular attention to small and medium-sized enterprises due to their potential to generate social and economic benefits, especially for women and youth.
