The African Shipbuilding Company, located in the maritime port of Jarzouna in the Bizerte governorate, has successfully built a deep-sea fishing vessel named Cité de Beni Saf, in honor of the Algerian city of Beni Saf, where the vessel’s owner is from. Located 90 km south of Algiers, this coastal city is one of Algeria’s key ports for receiving ships carrying various types of fish.

Mourad Ben Ayad, owner of the African Shipbuilding Company, stated that Beni Saf City is the eighth vessel built by the company since its founding and that it took 15 months to complete despite numerous challenges. He emphasized that the successful completion of this world-class vessel is a source of pride for Tunisia, especially given the trust placed in the company by Algerian and Moroccan clients, the moral support received, and the cooperation of various official and administrative bodies.

Ben Ayad highlighted that the vessel measures 40 meters in length and is powered by a 1,650-horsepower engine, allowing it to operate in deep waters for over two months without refueling. He also noted that the construction of such vessels was previously limited to European countries, underscoring the significant advancements made by Tunisia’s maritime industry.
