Protocol of Cooperation Between Morocco and Libya in the Field of Fisheries and Aquaculture

In Morocco, the Secretary of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich, and the Libyan Minister of Marine Resources signed a protocol of cooperation in the field of maritime fisheries and aquaculture on Thursday, on the sidelines of the Halieutis Fair in Agadir.

According to the MAP agency, the signing of this agreement reflects the commitment of Morocco and Libya, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency the President of the Presidential Council of Libya, Mr. Mohamed Al-Menfi, to strengthen their sectoral cooperation and develop mutually beneficial partnerships in favor of the sustainable management of fishery resources and the development of their respective blue economies.

This protocol also aligns with the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their historical relations of friendship and cooperation, with a focus on the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

Aware of the strategic role of fisheries and aquaculture in economic and social development, as well as their contribution to food security, Morocco and Libya have agreed on a structured framework for enhanced collaboration.

The main provisions of the protocol cover several strategic areas, including capacity building through training and expertise exchanges, scientific cooperation through joint research, the improvement of seafood processing and marketing, as well as the monitoring and control of fishing activities.

It also encourages joint investments among economic actors and coordination within international bodies to defend shared interests.

This protocol, established for an initial period of five years and renewable by tacit agreement, sets up a joint commission responsible for monitoring its implementation and evaluating the actions undertaken.
