It may be a consequence of climate change (researchers at the Concarneau Marine Station are currently investigating the issue): starfish are proliferating in our waters, causing significant damage to shellfish beds—particularly scallops, oysters, and mussels.
To address the problem, scientists, fishermen, and industry stakeholders are working together to create a value-added sector. What is currently considered waste—the starfish—could become a resource. This report takes us to southern Finistère.
