Specializing in pollution control solutions, particularly plastic waste, Wayout has recently installed ten « Zigofilters » in the Ettahrir neighborhood in the Greater Tunis area.
These simple yet effective devices, designed to last up to 15 years, aim to limit the accumulation of plastics and other debris in the sewage system.
« They facilitate the evacuation of stormwater while preventing flooding and marine pollution, » explains Mohamed Rammeh, founder and CEO of Wayout, in an interview with the TAP Agency.
This project, which is part of a pilot action supported by Enda Tamweel, has already been adopted by 25 municipalities across the country.
The innovation aims to have a triple impact—environmental, social, and economic. It also seeks to improve the daily lives of sanitation workers, who are often forced to handle waste by hand in undignified conditions.
It helps municipalities reduce the costs associated with urban maintenance, highlights Mohamed Rammeh, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the work of garbage collectors and their crucial role in maintaining public spaces.
For the young entrepreneur, one of the major challenges in Tunisia is the lack of infrastructure maintenance, coupled with rapid urbanization that is gradually encroaching on natural spaces.
He explains that asphalt and paving prevent water from properly infiltrating the soil. As a result, the networks quickly become saturated, streets flood, and suspended waste exacerbates the situation.
« Our goal is to contribute to public awareness so that citizens stop throwing waste in the streets and, by doing so, improve the urban landscape in collaboration with municipalities, » he insists.
