A seagull flies over the French Atlantic coast. The Margiris, the second-largest trawler in the world, has just released 100,000 dead blue whiting fish, which are now floating on the surface. « From 100 tons of fish per hectare in 1900, now there are only 20 or 2 left! [depending on fishing zones and species, editor’s note], » points out Didier Gascuel, director of the fisheries division at the Rennes Agro Institute, a few pages later.

« Who ate the sea? » asks Maxime de Lisle, former deputy commander for Sea Shepherd and president of the Seastemik association. In this documentary graphic novel, he paints a grim picture of the ocean’s state by breaking down the public policies surrounding the fishing industry, massive urbanization, and the devastation caused by salmon farming.
