Its hull features the same raw aluminum hue as the Tara schooner, with the signature orange of the Tara Ocean Foundation. Apart from that, the Tara Polar Station, officially christened on Thursday, April 24 at its home port in Lorient, is a vessel unlike any other. Mer et Marine had the opportunity to visit it.

Two Taras docked one behind the other, not at the Cité de la Voile, but at the aptly named Ponton de la Découverte, recently inaugurated at the Péristyle. We are in Lorient, the home port of the historic schooner, about to depart for several awareness and political engagement stops leading up to the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice this coming June. This is also where the drifting Tara Polar Station, which arrived on April 13 from the CMN shipyards in Cherbourg, its place of construction, for its christening, is stationed.
