The Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP) reminded fishermen and stakeholders in the fishing sector on Friday that there are various protected marine species that are prohibited from being fished and marketed.

These species include cartilaginous fish such as rays and sharks, sea turtles, cetaceans, and seabirds. This awareness-raising initiative is part of the commitment to preserving fishery resources and ensuring their sustainability.

In a statement, the UTAP highlighted that various scientific guides developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (SPA/RAC) are available to fishermen and accessible online.
