BAC GIANG – According to the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine (under the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment), nearly 150 hectares of aquaculture in Bac Giang Province have now adopted automation technologies.

Of these, around 83 hectares are being supported under the project titled “Development of Intensive Aquaculture Automation in Bac Giang Province, 2021–2025.”

A Household in Cao Thuong Town (Tan Yen) Implements Aquaculture Automation

In Bac Giang Province, a household in Cao Thuong town (Tan Yen district) is among those applying automation in aquaculture.

Eighty households from the districts of Tan Yen, Hiep Hoa, Lang Giang, Luc Nam, as well as Viet Yen town and Bac Giang city, have participated in the program. These households receive financial support covering:

  • 50% of the cost for purchasing sensors, oxygen generators, automated fish feeders, and camera monitoring systems;
  • 60% of the cost for purchasing fish fry (juvenile fish);
  • 100% of the cost for purchasing medications, chemicals, biological products, environmental monitoring equipment, support for VietGAP certification, training, and study tours.

In addition, nearly 70 hectares (not included in the project) have been proactively equipped by households with automation and biotechnology solutions for management, care, and disease prevention in aquaculture.

Performance Evaluation:
Thanks to the application of automation and biotechnology, the average yield reaches 14 to 15 tons per hectare, representing an increase of 15% to 20% compared to traditional methods used prior to implementing the model.

Looking Ahead to 2025:
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue supporting 15 additional households under the project, covering an area of 23.5 hectares. Specialized agencies are currently finalizing procedures and are expected to deliver fish fry and equipment to the households by June 2025.

Provincial Overview:
The entire province of Bac Giang has approximately 11,800 hectares of aquaculture. This includes:

  • Over 6,300 hectares of specialized aquaculture;
  • Nearly 4,500 hectares of intensive and semi-intensive aquaculture;
  • Nearly 1,000 hectares certified under VietGAP standards.

On average, the province produces around 54,000 tons of commercial fish annually.
