On Tuesday, May 27, Algerian Minister of Transport Saïd Sayoud, alongside the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Youssef Cherfa, inaugurated two new offshore tuna fishing vessels, fully built by Algerian hands.

The vessels, named Felizabeth Emir Abdelkader and Shahid Abane Ramdane, are the largest of their kind in the history of Algeria’s maritime industry, each measuring 42 meters in length. This milestone highlights Algeria’s growing shipbuilding capabilities and its commitment to supporting the blue economy.

This initiative aims to enhance national food security and support the fishing fleet. Both vessels are equipped with the latest navigation, monitoring, and refrigeration technologies to ensure efficient red tuna fishing operations.

On this occasion, Minister Sayoud reaffirmed the state’s support for similar projects and revealed plans to build a new 52-meter vessel as part of the ongoing development of the maritime industry.

The two vessels are scheduled to enter service on Wednesday, May 28, as part of a national plan to enhance marine resource utilization and boost domestic production.
