Microsoft founder Bill Gates has announced that the majority of his fortune will be dedicated to improving healthcare and education services in Africa over the next 20 years.

The 69-year-old Gates said that “by unlocking human potential through health and education, every African country should be on the path to prosperity.”

In a speech delivered in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, he also urged young African innovators to consider how to develop artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance healthcare across the continent.

Last month, Bill Gates declared that he would donate 99% of his vast fortune—estimated at around $200 billion—by 2045, the year his foundation plans to wind down its activities.

“I recently committed to giving away my fortune over the next 20 years. Most of these funds will be used to help you address challenges here in Africa,” he said during a speech at the African Union headquarters.
