The Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is planning to accelerate the establishment of a project office in Tunisia to strengthen its presence in North Africa and develop a dedicated water program. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration with national and regional partners on water governance, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of resources.
This project, among others, is featured in the IUCN Med 2024 Annual Report, officially released on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, which this year carries the theme « Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development. »
The IUCN Mediterranean team also aims to scale up efforts on governance, conservation, and sustainability throughout the Mediterranean region.
The “Dialogue for Nature” project will support policy and capacity-building within regional and local administrations to help implement the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). At the same time, the “Mubadarat” Initiative and the new “Tamkeen” project, launched in partnership with AECID (the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation), will strengthen civil society organizations to promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS), climate resilience, and social inclusion, according to the report.
