The Ministry of Health has issued a warning against swimming at 28 beaches due to water pollution in the governorates of Tunis, Ben Arous, Ariana, and Bizerte.
As part of monitoring seawater quality, the ministry conducted inspections at 539 sites along the coastline. Results for June reveal that 71% of Tunisian beaches are of good quality, while 28 sites have been declared unfit for swimming.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry specified the distribution of beaches closed to swimming as follows:
Governorate of Tunis
- 1 restricted site: Bach Hamba Street beach in La Goulette.
Governorate of Ben Arous – 15 restricted sites:
- 100 meters south of Marouan beach (Radès)
- Opposite the Civil Protection headquarters (Radès)
- 100 meters north of the Meliane River mouth (Radès)
- Opposite the Maizet River mouth (Ezzahra)
- At the mouth of Boukhamsa River (Ezzahra)
- Opposite Salsa Major Street (Hammam-Lif)
- Opposite Mediterranean Street (Hammam-Lif)
- Opposite the Casino (Hammam-Lif)
- Opposite Habib Thameur Street (Hammam-Lif)
- Opposite Aziza Othmana Street (Hammam-Lif)
- Old Echaâbia River mouth (Hammam-Lif)
- At the mouth of Ayachia River (Hammam-Lif)
Governorate of Ariana – 6 restricted sites:
- At the mouth of the sabkha (Raoued)
- In front of the Akrout horse breeding center (Raoued)
- At the residential subdivision (Raoued Beach)
- At Judges’ City (Raoued)
- At the Gulf canal (Raoued)
- 50 meters north of the Gulf canal (Raoued)
Governorate of Bizerte – 6 restricted sites:
- Jalta Beach (Bizerte)
- Baâli Beach (Menzel Jemil)
- Sidi Hachani Fishing Port (Menzel Abderrahmène)
- Canal 1 in Zarzouna
- Canal 2 in Zarzouna
The ministry has urged citizens to avoid swimming in these areas for their own safety and confirmed that water quality monitoring will continue throughout the summer season.
