The « ghost fleet » used by Russia, Iran, and North Korea to transport oil while circumventing sanctions may include around 900 vessels, a French admiral told members of parliament on Wednesday, according to AFP.
« The State’s action is first and foremost a particularly close surveillance of this fleet, which is estimated to consist of around 900 ships, about ten of which are monitored daily in the English Channel, » said Admiral Benoît de Guibert, Maritime Prefect for the Channel and the North Sea.
This clandestine fleet is « not limited to Russian interests, but also involves countries such as Iran and North Korea, » he added.
