The Swiss meeting was organized following the failure to reach an agreement during the previous session in Busan (South Korea), which was supposed to be the last one.
The United Nations Ocean Conference held in Nice last June enabled countries supporting an ambitious treaty to take stock and maintain pressure ahead of the opening of INC 5.2, the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on plastic pollution. This session will be held at the United Nations Office in Geneva from August 5 to 14.
