The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) North Africa issued a call on Saturday inviting volunteers to join the new edition of the “Adopt a Beach” program.

This call follows the success of the program’s first phase and aims to raise environmental awareness and combat plastic pollution on the beaches of North Africa. The deadline for registration has been set for 30 November 2025, according to the same source.

After this date, selected teams will be contacted to participate in a preparatory meeting during which field activities and the scientific protocol approved by WWF North Africa will be presented.

It is worth recalling that more than 341,000 waste items were recorded on 137 Tunisian beaches during the first phase of the “Adopt a Beach” program, led by WWF North Africa to monitor and collect data on marine litter and raise awareness about plastic pollution in the Mediterranean.

According to WWF North Africa, the efforts carried out by 91 teams mobilized by the program made it possible to identify the type and quantity of waste found on the surveyed beaches while also cleaning them.

Most of the waste identified consisted of cigarette butts, pieces of glass or ceramic, plastic beverage caps and lids, glass bottles, plastic bag fragments, plastic bottles, and metal cans.

Launched in collaboration with WWF offices in Greece and Turkey, the “Adopt a Beach” program aims to encourage volunteers, schools, and organizations to “adopt” specific beaches in Tunisia, Greece, and Turkey to monitor and collect data on marine litter.
