This is a partnership between Canon, the specialist in imaging and optical technologies, and Coral Spawning International, founded by biologist Jamie Craggs and dedicated to coral reproduction in controlled environments. Marine biologist Martin Colognoli is involved in this program.

Coral Reproduction in Controlled Environments
Martin Colognoli: « This project also involves a field-based association located in the Seychelles, called Nature Seychelles, which works on public awareness as well as restoring coral in natural environments.

The international institute for coral regeneration and reproduction in controlled environments, led by Jamie Craggs, uses Canon technology with various types of lenses to observe the internal stages of coral reproduction. This allows scientists to determine exactly when the corals will spawn and also to document the process for scientific publications on coral reproduction in controlled settings, including sexual reproduction.

To assess the reproductive stage, scientists fragment the colony and observe it daily, photographing the development of oocytes with specialized super macro lenses that capture the evolution of each stage. »
