CONAKRY- A new chapter is opening for MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) in Guinea. The world’s largest shipping company, with over 900 vessels, laid the foundation stone of its future headquarters in Guinea on Tuesday, 25 November 2025. The ceremony brought together the company’s regional executives, local managers, and government authorities.

Located in Coléah, this major infrastructure project marks a significant step in MSC’s long-term presence in Guinea and demonstrates the company’s confidence in the country’s economic potential.

MSC Guinea CEO, Maël Atayi, emphasized that the company’s presence in Africa is based on a long-term vision. According to him, being the leading freight operator in Guinea is not just about market position; it is demonstrated through concrete actions aimed at modernizing the port and logistics sector.

« Being a leader means taking concrete actions that will sustainably transform the country’s port and logistics environment. Laying the foundation stone of our future headquarters is proof of this commitment, » he stated.

The CEO also emphasized that the new headquarters is not just an administrative building: it is designed to provide modern and comfortable workspaces for staff, as well as reception facilities that meet client expectations, while symbolizing MSC’s long-term confidence in Guinea and local expertise.

For MSC Africa Regional Director, Marie Chevalier, this milestone represents a foundational moment for the group in Guinea, where MSC has been established for 16 years. She emphasized that the construction of the new headquarters demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainable development in the country.

« This building is not just another structure in Conakry’s landscape; it is tangible proof of our deep roots in Guinea and our confidence in its growth potential, » she said.

Marie Chevalier also highlighted that MSC, present in more than 45 African countries, plays a crucial role in the continent’s connectivity, linking Africa to Europe, Asia, and the Americas for over 50 years. Through its operations, the group contributes not only to maritime transport but also to economic development, local talent training, and job creation.

« Providing optimal working conditions means investing in collective success and the quality of service we deliver to our clients. Our teams are our greatest strength, » added MSC Africa Regional Director, Marie Chevalier.

Representing the government at the ceremony, Elhadj Mohamed Lamine Sy Savané, Minister and Chief of Staff at the Prime Minister’s Office, praised MSC’s initiative, noting that it aligns with Pillar 3 of Simandou 2040, which focuses on infrastructure, transport, and technology.

He recalled that President Mamadi Doumbouya has, for the past three years, encouraged companies operating in Guinea to build their headquarters on national soil, particularly in Conakry. For the government, MSC’s initiative concretely fulfills this ambition.

« It is not just about employing Guineans, but about offering them opportunities across the entire company’s value chain and management structure, » stated Mr. Yansané.

The Minister and Chief of Staff also emphasized the importance of strengthening local content—a key priority of Guinea’s economic policy—and encouraged MSC to continue its efforts to integrate Guinean companies within its ecosystem.

The laying of this foundation stone thus opens a new chapter in the relationship between MSC and Guinea. Through strategic investments, human capital development, and shared growth opportunities, the group reaffirms its ambition to be a long-term strategic partner for the country.
