The activities of the multilateral naval exercise « PHOENIX EXPRESS 26 » were inaugurated yesterday Tuesday at the main naval base of La Goulette, in the presence of 50 soldiers representing nine countries: Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Egypt, Italy, Belgium, Georgia and the United States of America, in addition to Tunisia, the host country.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense published on Wednesday, this exercise, organized by Tunisia in cooperation with the United States Command for Africa (AFRICOM), is part of strengthening Tunisia’s role as a key partner in the maritime security system, and the affirmation of its constant willingness to develop cooperation with its regional and international partners in order to protect the Mediterranean Sea and address cross-border security challenges, thus contributing to guarantee the security and stability of the Mediterranean area and support the safety of navigation and legal maritime activities.
The twentieth edition of this exercise, hosted by Tunisia from 20 to 23 January, takes the form of a theoretical command exercise, focused on strengthening the operational capacities of participating navies in the fields of multilateral planning and coordination, as well as on the development of conducting skills for joint naval operations. It also includes theoretical and practical courses aimed at improving the performance of crews in the maritime field, through the analysis of maritime traffic and the operation of modern technological systems for the monitoring, monitoring and classification of maritime activities in the Mediterranean, according to the same press release.
