Following recent climatic disturbances, marked by exceptional rainfall that resulted in material damage, the Governor of Tunis, Imed Boukhris, chaired, on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the headquarters of the governorate, a working meeting devoted to the examination of the urgent prerogatives to be adopted in several sensitive sectors, including Bhar Lazreg, the delegation of La Goulette and the Old Port of Tunis.

The meeting defined a series of priority measures, including the intervention of the Urban Water Directorate for the construction of a rainwater drainage channel in the low area of Jaber Ibn Hayane Street, near the Izmiralda residence. The National Sanitation Office, for its part, was instructed to carry out a complete inspection of the sewerage network and to replace the damaged sections, in particular those deteriorated by previous work related to the running water networks and the repair of the canals

In addition, the services of the Agency for Rehabilitation and Urban Renewal were invited to conclude an agreement with the municipality of La Marsa, in order to study the integration of the Bhar Lazreg area in future rehabilitation projects for unstructured neighborhoods.

The meeting also addressed the need to cure the basin of the Old Port of Tunis and to put in place devices to prevent the intrusion of marine waters, during high tides, accompanied by a technical study, to be developed in coordination with the parties concerned.

The Urban Waters Directorate was also called upon to accelerate the completion of the project to protect the city of Tunis against floods.

In conclusion, the governor of Tunis insisted on the importance of regular monitoring of these files, through periodic meetings, with precise deadlines and a clear timetable for the execution of the various interventions.
