Moez Cherif, Deputy and Representative of the Sousse Governorate to the National Council of Regions and Provinces, recently posted on one of the social networks, a Post in which he wondered about the salination unit project that was to be built in Sousse. He says: « this project, or rather this disconcerting enigma, poisons the Sousse region and the coastal governorates, causing recurring and continuous water shortages every summer and throughout the year…
Meetings and visits followed one another, accompanied by vain promises from the competent authorities, both central and regional. And now, as the new tourist season approaches, the Sousse seawater desalination plant is moving forward at a turtle’s pace, practically at a standstill…!
How long will this absurdity and insult to the Sousse region and its inhabitants last, especially given the immense suffering endured in many sectors…?
We call on the President of the Republic to intervene and put an end to this masquerade that affects the entire Sousse region in many areas, and to find a definitive solution for the Sousse seawater desalination plant, so that it can be completed, put into service and finally put an end to the suffering of coastal governorates ».
Recall that the Sidi Abdel Hamid seawater desalination plant in Sousse is a major strategic project in Tunisia, designed to strengthen the drinking water supply in the Sahel region. Planned to produce 50,000/day with a possible extension to 100,000/day, it uses modern reverse osmosis technologies.
