After attending the Milan-Cortina Olympics with his family, the Monegasque sovereign was once again in Italy to take part in the Arctic Circle Forum – Polar Dialogue. An event dedicated to the preservation of the Arctic Pole and which echoed the Monaco Polar Symposium organised at the end of February in the Principality at the Oceanographic Museum.
Research, Science, Diplomacy, Security and Education. » In five words, the Arctic Circle Forum – Polar Dialogue gave the most detailed details of the programme of these two Roman days dedicated to the Arctic Circle. This Italian edition followed those held in previous years in New Delhi, Berlin, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. On March 3, 2026, one of the highlights was Prince Albert II’s speech at the event.
« A crucial issue for humanity »
As the palace’s social media posts recall, Prince Albert reaffirmed the essential role of science, respect for international law and inclusive governance in addressing the challenges affecting the Arctic. « We have long regretted that the Arctic is not more present on the international agenda, » the sovereign lamented in his speech. It is clear that the situation has changed considerably in this regard in recent months… even if it is not always in the desired direction. […] The Arctic is a crucial issue for humanity; Its climate and resources concern us all, and its indigenous communities must be respected, listened to and fully involved in decisions that affect the future of their territories. ”

Ecological and political
Thus, the prince’s speech evoked both the climate emergency and the diplomatic issues related to the geopolitical situation of this highly coveted region. And echoed the work of the Monaco Polar Symposium held from 25 to 27 February, under the aegis of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. « The challenges facing the polar regions are systemic and accelerating, as we all know. Monaco is ready to contribute to this collective effort, » the sovereign said at the time, recalling in passing the obvious thematic links between the Monegasque initiative and this Roman session.
All paths…
The news is decidedly very Italian for Prince Albert II. After attending several events at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics with his wife Princess Charlene and his children, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco, including the mixed team skeleton event, all eyes will soon be on the Vatican and the Rock, with the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Principality on 28 March. An event that is already historic!
