Under the impetus of the Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries, a national meeting was held in Rabat to celebrate and strengthen female entrepreneurship in aquaculture.

The aquaculture sector in Morocco is taking an important step in its dynamics of inclusion. Under the chairmanship of Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries, the National Agency for Aquaculture Development (ANDA) organized on Wednesday, April 29 in Rabat, a national meeting devoted to leadership and female entrepreneurship in the sector.

Placed under the theme « Women’s leadership in aquaculture: lever for the enhancement of work and sustainable growth », this initiative is part of the national priorities aimed at promoting equal opportunities and strengthening the place of women in the professions of the blue economy.

In her speech, Zakia Driouich stressed the ambition to evolve the role of women, by allowing them to become full-fledged economic actors, capable of investing, innovating and carrying out structuring projects for the aquaculture sector. The meeting was also marked by the participation of Ilaria Carnevali (UNDP) and Majida Maarouf, director of the ANDA, demonstrating the joint commitment of national and international institutions.

Aquaculture: day of exchanges and solutions

Discussions focused on the integration of women in aquaculture professions, entrepreneurial opportunities, financing mechanisms and institutional support, as well as support strategies put in place by international organizations. An « Inspiring Journeys » sequence highlighted remarkable female trajectories, illustrating the diversity and richness of experiences in the sector.

The highlight of the meeting: the presentation of honorary trophies rewarding exemplary courses. The Award for Excellence and the Course of Merit was awarded to Soumya Bouzerktoun (Transis Afrique Traders). That of Innovation and Entrepreneurial Performance has returned to Sanaa Rami (Cultimer). The Prize for Strategic Engagement in Aquaculture was awarded to Zakia Driouich. Finally, the Sustainable Impact and Inclusion Award honored Jamila Karoum (Al Mostakbal Litahalib Albahriya Cooperative).

The meeting ended with a moment of networking, promoting exchanges and the creation of synergies between the actors of the sector. Through this initiative, ANDA reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, sustainable and resilient aquaculture development, placing female leadership at the heart of the transformation of the sector.
