Touba, June 30, 2026 (AIP) – The Tienko pilot farm (14 km from Touba) hosted, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, a visit to share experiences as part of the FISH4ACP project, after a first stop held in Zépréguhé, in the department of Daloa.
This meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources (MIRAH), experts, technical partners, fish producers as well as actors in the aquaculture sector around the promotion of good breeding tilapia production practices.
The FISH4ACP project, dedicated to the sustainable development of fishing and aquaculture value chains, supports Côte d’Ivoire in the modernization of the tilapia sector through a ten-year strategy developed in a participatory manner. It aims to sustainably improve the productivity, profitability and competitiveness of national aquaculture.
In this context, ten pilot fish farms have been selected throughout the territory to serve as demonstration sites for production and technical and financial management. After diagnosis, these farms have benefited from training on sustainable aquaculture practices, entrepreneurial management, as well as technical and financial support provided by APDRA Pisciculture Paysanne, a service provider recruited by the FAO.
The visits of Zépréguhé and Tienko are part of a dynamic of capitalization and dissemination of innovations. They allow producers, students, technical services and partners to soak up the results obtained and the improvements introduced on pilot farms.
In Tienko, participants visited the production facilities, observed the breeding techniques implemented and exchanged on the recorded performances. Discussions also focused on the marketing of fish, the constraints of farmers and the prospects for the development of aquaculture in the Bafing region.
The activity aimed in particular to present technical and commercial innovations, analyze the results obtained, share the lessons learned and disseminate good practices in order to improve the performance of the sector.
At the end of the visit, participants were asked to strengthen their mastery of modern tilapia production techniques and to make reproducible recommendations in other fish farms in the country.
The regional director of the MIRAH du Bafing, Gogbeu Emmanuel, welcomed the quality of the exchanges. « This field visit is a real platform for sharing experiences. We reviewed the difficulties, successes and potential of aquaculture in the Bafing, » he said, calling on producers to become more involved in this future-producing activity.
He recalled that Côte d’Ivoire remains heavily dependent on imports of fishery products, estimated at several billion CFA francs per year, and that the development of aquaculture is a strategic lever to strengthen food security, create jobs and improve incomes.
Participants welcomed this initiative, believing that it helps to accelerate the adoption of good aquaculture practices and to strengthen the competitiveness of the national fish sector.
