Morocco now has 244 active aquaculture projects, representing a target production capacity of about 90,000 tons per year, according to the Secretariat of State for Sea Fisheries.

This evolution reflects the growing confidence of investors in the potential of the sector and the effectiveness of the support mechanisms put in place, says the Secretariat of State in a press release on the 27th session of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA), held on Tuesday in Rabat, under the presidency of the Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich.

At the opening of the Council’s work, Ms. Driouich stressed that Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has made the sustainable development of its maritime resources and the blue economy a strategic choice.

She indicated that the development of aquaculture is fully part of this Royal Vision, as an essential pillar of the Halieutis strategy and a strategic lever for the diversification of national fisheries production.

Ms. Driouich recalled, as such, that this sector responds to major challenges of food security, sustainable valorization of resources and maritime spaces, attractiveness of investments and economic and social development of coastal territories.

In addition, the Board of Directors of the ANDA noted the progress made in the structuring of the aquaculture value chain. Upstream, the development of national hatchings is gradually contributing to securing the supply of aquaculture seeds, a decisive factor for the consolidation of production.

Downstream, the strengthening of packaging and recovery units improves the quality of products, increases their competitiveness on the markets and generates more added value for the benefit of operators.

On this occasion, the directors welcomed the efforts to improve the competitiveness of the sector, in particular through the support measures implemented by the public authorities in favor of strategic inputs, as well as the actions taken to facilitate investment, strengthen the support of project leaders and gradually improve the business environment of the sector.

The Council also welcomed the dynamic international cooperation initiated by the ANDA with several technical and financial partners, including the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

These partnerships support the development of the sector through technical assistance, capacity building, innovation and mobilization of new investments.

As part of the implementation of the provisions of the decree on the governance of public institutions and companies, the Board of Directors has also taken note of the reports presented by the chairmen of the specialized committees established within it, relating in particular to governance, strategy and investment as well as auditing.

At the end of its work, the Board of Directors approved the Agency’s activity report and the financial statements for the financial year 2025. Certified without reservation by the auditor, the latter reflect the good governance and rigor of the management of the ANDA.
