The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Animal Resources and Fisheries organizes the 8th joint support mission for the implementation of the Food System Resilience Program in West Africa, Burkina component (PRSA-BF), from 1 to 4 September 2026, in Ouagadougou.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources and the World Bank (WB) are in conclave from September 1 to 4, 2026, in Ouagadougou. Indeed, they will review the progress of the activities and make recommendations for the smooth running of the food system resilience program in West Africa, Burkina component (PRSA-BF). This meeting is organized by the ministry in charge of agriculture as part of the 8th joint support mission for the implementation of the program by Burkina Faso and the WB.
According to the organizers, this mission takes place during the last semester of the operational phase of the program. The Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of Agriculture, Gaoussou Sanou, revealed that as of August 20, 2026, the PRSA-BF had a cumulative execution rate of 93.77% and a financial execution rate of 93.59%. « The PRSA-BF reached 583,545 direct beneficiaries, or 89.8% of the final target. The level of achievement of the indicators of the development objective is 90.20% while the average rate of achievement of the indicators of the intermediate results is 98.23%, « he said.
In his opinion, it is a « privelized » opportunity to assess the progress made, to identify the last obstacles and above all to define the measures necessary for the completion of activities as well as the consolidation of the acquired knowledge.
« The PRSA-BF has contributed significantly to the government’s priorities in terms of food sovereignty, climate resilience, agricultural productivity and value chain development, » said Gaoussou Sanou.
Improvement of development indicators
For the PRSA-BF coordinator, Adama Kafando, this program has improved a number of development indicators at the national level. « In terms of food, the PRSA-BF has favored nearly 600,000 direct beneficiaries. We also focused on the objectives of the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive in terms of the acquisition and distribution of inputs (more than 36,000 tons of fertilizers made available to producers, 1,000 tons of seeds, more than 100 capacity stores), » he said. The PRSA-BF coordinator also noted that about 700 hectares (ha) of lowlands have been developed and recovered in terms of rice production.
« We are in the process of making 139 vegetable perimeters, of which 116 have already been received to date and about twenty are being finished. We also took into account the irrigated perimeters. On the basis of the new guidelines of the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Commander
Ismaël Sombié, we have committed two major projects whose finalization is in progress. This is the rehabilitation and modernization of the irrigated perimeter of Bama of more than 1,000 ha as well as that of Bossora with 450 ha out of a total of 700 ha under development, « added Adama Kafando.
The PRSA in West Africa is a response from regional organizations and member countries to the low productivity of the food system. The Burkina Faso component is part of the national priorities declined in the Sectoral Policy « agro-sylvo-pastoral production (PS-PASP) », the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PA-SD) and the Agro-pastoral and Fisheries Offensive (OAPH) which aims at food sovereignty and the creation of decent jobs in the agro-pastoral sector.
The PRSA-BF came into force in June 2022 and was implemented over a period of five years. It aims to increase preparedness for food insecurity and improve
the resilience of actors in the food system, priority landscapes and value chains.
