The 16th Monaco Blue Initiative took place on Monday at the Oceanographic Museum, with a speech by Prince Albert II. This edition is a key moment ahead of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference, which will be held in Nice in June.

A centuries-old commitment. This is how Prince Albert II summed up the Principality’s fight for the oceans on Monday during his speech at the 16th edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative. The event, launched at his initiative in 2010, was designed as a unique discussion platform that brings together the major players in ocean conservation each year to address the global challenges of ocean space management and preservation in concrete, operational, and forward-looking terms. « It is only by working together that we can act appropriately and effectively to improve the preservation of ocean spaces while ensuring their sustainable management, » the Sovereign once again emphasized.

The recommendations from the discussions held during this 16th edition at the Oceanographic Museum will feed into the debates of the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (in Monaco on June 7 and 8), which aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable blue economy. Two important steps before the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference, which will take place in Nice from June 9 to 13.
