In the midst of tensions with Niger and Burkina Faso, Patrice Talon has taken decisive action in favor of the Port Autonome de Cotonou in Benin.

On October 24, 2024, Bénin Terminal, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) responsible for the container terminal, officially announced the commissioning of a state-of-the-art quay crane.

This equipment, representing a significant investment of €11 million (approximately 7.18 billion FCFA), aims to spearhead a broader ambition: to improve the operational efficiency of the port and strengthen its position on the sub-regional stage.

The quay crane is designed to optimize the loading and unloading of vessels, a crucial task in maritime transport. AGL officials emphasize that this equipment should transform port operations by enabling faster and more efficient handling of container ships.

This technical advancement is particularly important as it addresses the growing need for fluidity and speed in trade exchanges, which are essential to support the ongoing economic growth dynamics in the region.

Fabrice TURE, General Director of Bénin Terminal, stated, « With this new equipment, we enhance our capacity to support regional economic growth by providing increasingly efficient logistics solutions. » This statement reflects the commitment of port stakeholders to adapt to the demands of international trade while supporting the economic development of Benin and its neighbors.

Ultimately, the installation of this quay crane is part of a series of initiatives aimed at modernizing the Port Autonome de Cotonou, already recognized as a vital hub for maritime trade in West Africa.

One thing is certain: the port is now positioning itself as a key player in improving logistics infrastructure, a major challenge for the future economic prospects of the sub-region.

This new acquisition, authorized by Patrice Talon to modernize the Port Autonome de Cotonou, comes amidst tensions between Burkina Faso and Niger.
