Dakhla – A Liberian delegation made a study visit to Dakhla on Thursday to learn about the Moroccan experience in the field of maritime fishing.
Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), this visit is part of the implementation of the Cooperation Roadmap concluded between Morocco and Liberia on June 24, 2021 in Rabat in the section relating to the fisheries sector.
This two-day trip (May 30 and 31) allows members of the Liberian delegation to see first-hand the progress made by Morocco in the field of maritime fishing and to promote the actions undertaken by the Kingdom within the framework of cooperation. South-South.
In a statement to the press, the Deputy Director General of the Technical Department of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority of Liberia, William Yarwha Boeh, stressed that this study visit will allow the delegation to soak up Moroccan experience in the sectors of maritime fishing and aquaculture, expressing its desire to benefit from Morocco’s pioneering experience in this area.
Mr. Yarwha Boehil also emphasized the similarities in the fields of intervention of the two countries in the sectors of aquaculture and maritime fishing, expressing his wish to benefit from the Moroccan experience in terms of exchange. expertise and capacity building to develop this promotional sector in his country.
For his part, the delegate of maritime fisheries of Dakhla, Youssef Fnoune indicated that this visit allowed the Liberian delegation to learn about the achievements made by the Kingdom in the field of maritime fishing, particularly in the Dakhla region. Oued Eddahab.
This visit was also an opportunity to highlight the “Halieutis” strategy to make the maritime fishing sector a real lever for the development of the blue economy in Morocco, he underlined, noting that this visit is also part of the implementation of the Cooperation Roadmap concluded between the two countries, in order to promote the exchange of expertise and experience in this area between the two countries.
On this occasion, he made a presentation to members of the Liberian delegation composed of Mr. Yarwha Boehil, Mr. Solomon Nyebaayou Daryoue, Director of Marine and Environment, and Mr. Harris Hamad Mallay, Associate Director of aquaculture and fishing.
In his presentation, Mr. Fnoune reviewed the diversified fishery resources of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, emphasizing the contribution of the maritime fishing sector to socio-economic growth in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. and the efforts made to develop this sector.
He also highlighted the various infrastructures linked to maritime fishing activity, including six fishing sites, two fishing ports and a third in progress, 101 units for freezing, processing and valorizing fishery products. , 28 active aquaculture farms, eight ice factories and a medical center at the port, as well as a fish hall and two canneries under construction.
The members of the Liberian delegation subsequently visited the Hall and the fishing port of Dakhla, an aquaculture farm and an industrial unit for packaging and processing fishery products.
They will also have the opportunity to visit the National Fisheries Research Institute, the South Atlantic Chamber of Maritime Fisheries and the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Investment Center.
