La Commission européenne investit 126,9 millions d'euros pour protéger les océans

Some 26 projects aimed at protecting and restoring the ocean have been selected by the European Commission to receive financial support.

The 26 selected projects involve 346 beneficiaries from 37 countries, including SMEs, research institutes, local authorities, higher or secondary education institutions, and businesses. The actions of the selected projects span from the Baltic and North Sea, through the Danube and Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and up to the Atlantic. They are part of the European mission « Restore our oceans and waters. »

The projects cover topics such as the sustainable management of Danube sediments, the protection and restoration of biodiversity in the Atlantic and Arctic maritime basins, combating water and soil pollution in and around the Mediterranean basin, the protection and restoration of natural European lake ecosystems, and the integration of socio-ecological models into the Digital Twin Ocean (a digital replica of the ocean used to test the impacts of decisions) to make data more comprehensive.

The projects were selected following calls for proposals launched in 2023 and were evaluated by independent experts. The list of projects can be found here.
