On Friday, May 10, 2024, Ivory Coast chaired the opening of the 13th edition of the Obagamé exercises at the Abidjan naval base, which is multinational maritime training in West and Central Africa.
The 13th edition of Obangamé kicked off on Friday May 10 in Abidjan. It was in the presence of Captain Ehu Daniel, representing the Chief of Staff of the Ivorian Navy.
This multinational maritime exercise in West and Central Africa is sponsored by the United States of America. It aims to improve maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, a region considered vulnerable to pirate activities and other maritime threats.
The opening ceremony brought together all the administrations of State actions at sea in this case, the National Navy, the Ministry of Justice, the national gendarmerie, the national police, maritime affairs, Ivorian customs , the fisheries department, the autonomous port of Abidjan and all other administrations which contribute to securing the Ivorian maritime space.
For this 13th edition, the headquarters is based in Gabon. The military exercise will end on May 16, 2024.
