On August 17, ultra-endurance swimmer Noam Yaron will set off on a non-stop 180-kilometer swim from Calvi to Monaco.

180 kilometers swimming, in 72 hours. At the age of 27, Swiss swimmer Noam Yaron is preparing for an improbable challenge of endurance and speed, to swim from Calvi, Corsica, to Monaco this August.

An ultra-endurance specialist, the athlete revealed on BFM Nice Côte d’Azur on Tuesday, July 2 that « the aim of this swim is to serve as an awareness-raising campaign to promote the preservation of the Mediterranean and the protection of biodiversity, and everything to do with living things ».

« We realized that promoting the environment through sport is one of the best ways to achieve this goal, hence the Calvi-Monaco swim challenge, 180 kilometers without leaving the water in a wetsuit, » says Swiss swimmer Noam Yaron.

Lake Geneva crossing record holder

Beyond raising awareness for a noble cause, the crossing, which he hopes to complete in the space of three days and three nights, is his fourth such challenge. As our Swiss colleagues at Le Temps explain, Noam has a habit of setting major challenges in his life to break records, including crossing the length of Lake Geneva in 19 hours and 53 minutes.

This record was broken in 2021, enabling him to dethrone Spain’s Jaime Caballero, who completed the same crossing in 22 hours and 39 minutes.

To meet these challenges, Noam Yaron undertakes training sessions of rare intensity, which can change rapidly depending on the weather.

« Training is varied (…). I try to swim as much as possible in the sea, which is why I came to Monaco for a month. The aim is to gather as much information as possible, because I’m from Switzerland, where we don’t have any sea but mostly lakes. So you have to get to grips with the salt, the currents, the wind (…) », says the athlete.

At the time of writing, he still has just over a month to perfect his physical condition, before kicking off this extreme endurance event.

To keep up with his adventures, which will take him to the beach at Monaco’s Méridien Plaza, his social networks will be kept up to date with the challenge. The challenge kicks off on August 17.
