Mbodiène, Senegal, January 30, 2025 – At 11:00 AM, the city of Mbodiène will host the official inauguration of an innovative hatchery dedicated to the development of aquaculture and the fight against irregular migration. This ambitious project, led by the National Aquaculture Agency of Senegal (ANA) in collaboration with the Veolia Foundation of the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute and the Interministerial Council for the Fight Against Irregular Migration, embodies a vision of economic autonomy and strengthening local capacities.

The event, which promises to be a key moment for the city of Mbodiène, will be honored by the presence of David Poinard, General Delegate of the Veolia Foundation, and Patricia Ricard, President of the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute. Representatives from the National Aquaculture Agency of Senegal (ANA), the Interministerial Council for the Fight Against Irregular Migration, and other institutional partners will also be present.

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, as the patron of this initiative, will show his support for the project, emphasizing its importance for the socio-economic development of the country.

A Project with Multiple Impacts

The hatchery, a product of international partnership, will promote sustainable aquaculture while fostering the creation of local jobs. The project mainly aims to support women’s groups, which will receive funding to develop income-generating activities.

This economic model is based on a virtuous cycle: the funds generated by the hatchery will be reinvested to finance new local initiatives. At the same time, knowledge and skills sharing will be organized to train young Senegalese in aquaculture, irrigation, and agriculture professions.

The goal is clear: to offer concrete alternatives to irregular migration by creating opportunities locally, allowing young people to actively contribute to the economic and social development of their country.

An Exemplary CSR Project with National and International Mobilization

This project fully aligns with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, driven by committed actors such as the Veolia Foundation and the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute. Their collaboration with the ANA and other local organizations reflects a collective commitment to sustainable development in Senegal.

The hatchery will also highlight environmentally friendly practices, promoting balanced resource management while improving agricultural and aquaculture yields.

This inauguration marks an important step in the cooperation between Senegal and its international partners. By involving local institutions and international stakeholders, this exemplary project symbolizes unity in addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges.

This hatchery in Mbodiène represents much more than a technical project: it is a concrete response to the issues of migration, unemployment, and sustainable development. Through this initiative, Senegal reaffirms its commitment to creating a prosperous future for its citizens.
