The Cooperation Centre for the Mediterranean of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) plans to accelerate the establishment of a project office in Tunisia to strengthen its presence in North Africa and develop a dedicated water program. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration with national and regional partners on water governance, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable resource management.

This project, along with many others, is included in the IUCN Med 2024 annual report, officially released on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, which this year focuses on the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.”

The IUCN Mediterranean team also plans to reinforce governance, conservation, and sustainability efforts throughout the Mediterranean region.

The “Dialogue for Nature” project will strengthen policy and capacity building within regional and local administrations to support the objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Meanwhile, the “Mubadarat” initiative and the new “Tamkeen” project, launched with AECID (the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation), will bolster civil society organizations to promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS), climate resilience, and social inclusion, according to the report.
