Abidjan, February 24, 2025 (AIP) – The Autonomous Port of Abidjan (PAA) was highlighted by its Director General, Hien Yacouba Sié, as a maritime hub undergoing transformation during a panel on the blue economy held on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
This meeting, dedicated to liberal MPs from Europe, Africa, the Pacific, and the Caribbean, took place on the sidelines of the international liberal summit in Abidjan, themed « Partners Making Progress: Enhancing EU-Africa Competitiveness for Sustainable Growth. »
Director General Hien Sié presented ambitious projects aimed at modernizing port infrastructure, positioning Abidjan as a strategic crossroads between Tangier Med and Durban. Among the initiatives are the deepening of the Vridi Canal, the construction of a new pier for the fishing port, and the addition of several specialized terminals.
According to Mr. Hien, this transformation has enabled the port to increase its capacity, with a target of handling 40 million tons of goods in 2024. He emphasized that these reforms align with the liberal economic vision promoted by President Alassane Ouattara, which has led to the development of a modern strategic plan.
He also highlighted the PAA’s efforts in sustainable development, stressing the importance of initiatives aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of port activities.
The DG also paid tribute to the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Executive Vice President of the International Liberal, and Co-chair of RenewPAC, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, for his commitment alongside President Ouattara.
This meeting reaffirmed Ivory Coast’s significant role in international maritime trade while celebrating the actors involved in this transformation. Hien Yacouba Sié encouraged participants to explore business opportunities in Ivory Coast, a country rich in economic potential.
