The ships “Hannibal 3” and “Hannibal 4” were recently received by the Tunisian authorities at the port of La Goulette. These two surveillance vessels were the subject of a donation between the Japanese and Tunisian governments. They are of crucial importance for Tunisia through their contribution to strengthening operations to monitor illegal and illicit fishing on the Tunisian coasts.

The reception ceremony was organized in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries (MARHP) Abdelmonem Belati, and Osuga Takeshi, Ambassador of Japan in Tunisia and Mrs. MIYATA Mayumi, Resident Representative of JICA in Tunisia.

The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture within the MARHP will thus be able to have its own control fleet and comply with national and international requirements in this area. JICA aims through this donation to support the efforts of the Tunisian government to preserve marine resources, restore the marine ecosystem affected by illicit and illegal fishing, consolidate good practices in fisheries co-management and promote Tunisian fishery products.
