The regional commission in charge of organizing maritime excursions to La Galite Island has approved, during its meeting held this Tuesday at the governorate headquarters, the applications of two Tunisian tourism companies. These companies, having met all regulatory requirements, have been officially authorized to organize maritime and recreational excursions to La Galite Island, departing from the Tabarka marina, as part of the 2025 tourism season.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance Tunisia’s natural maritime heritage and diversify the country’s tourism offerings, particularly in the northwestern regions.
Located approximately 81 kilometers north of Bizerte and 60 kilometers off the coast of Tabarka, La Galite is the main island of an archipelago that also includes Galiton and Fouchal Islands to the southwest, as well as the Îles des Chiens (a group of three small islets) to the northeast.
Covering an area of 752.3 hectares, with a peak reaching 391 meters above sea level, La Galite is distinguished by its remarkable biodiversity and unspoiled natural landscape, making it one of the rare jewels of the Mediterranean, both in its eastern and western basins.
The excursions, which will be monitored by maritime and environmental authorities, aim to balance tourism development with the ecological preservation of this high-value natural site.
